New Orleans broke out into a massive, city-wide party on Sunday after the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts, 31 - 17. It was the first Super Bowl in the Saint's 43-year history. Quarterback (and MVP) Drew Brees - with the help of an on-side kick by Thomas Morstead and a 74-yard returned interception by Tracy Porter - led the team to a rousing victory and tied the record for most completions in a Super Bowl.

A Historic Newspaper Perspective

On November 5th, 2009, the Winnipeg Free Press discussed the Saints and the Colts through the mid-season: "That leaves us with the Colts and the Saints. Peyton Manning [Quarterback for the Colts] has been, well, Peyton Manning from the get-go and the Colts are clearly the class of the AFC. Their defence is better than people give them credit for, having allowed just 91 points against through seven games."

"The Saints have come from behind, blown teams out and exposed the New York Giants as early season fraudsters. Drew Brees has been the best player in the NFL to date and they have Carolina, St. Louis and Tampa Bay to open November. Look for them to move to 10-0 before they host the Pats on Nov. 30. If the Super Bowl were played tomorrow, we'd take the Saints."

A bit of prescience by Gary Lawless at the Free Press!
