Fri, 01/11/1935 (All day)

In her red and gold monoplane, aviator Amelia Earhart left Honolulu today for the first solo flight across the Pacific Ocean, from Hawaii to California . "The flier made the 2408-mile hop from Honolulu, the first person to accomplish the feat alone, making it in 18 hours and 16 minutes. Her blonde hair, usually a wind-blown bob, wasn't even tousled when she turned toward the cheering throng," explained The Ogden Standard-Examiner on January 12, 1935.
