A deep freeze has gripped much of the U.S., forcing ski resort closings and flight cancellations across the country. North Dakota, already facing massive snowfalls this winter, has seen temperatures drop to 24 degrees below zero. International Falls, Minnesota, reached negative 40 on Tuesday. At NewspaperARCHIVE.com, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, we're sitting around one or two degrees above, with a windchill that pushes the temperature to what feels like negative 18, and that's expected to drop continually through Wednesday night and through Thursday.
